MSSS

Malankara Social Service Society (MSSS) is the development and social work organ of the Catholic Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum.  MSSS is registered in 1961, under the Travancore-Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act XII of 1955 of the Indian Union. It is active as an organization promoting socio-economic development of the weaker sections for the past 61 years.

MSSS has established the identity among the people, Catholic Church, government institutions and other development agencies as an organization committed to work for the weaker and marginalized.   This was possible because of its serving the poor, marginalized and unorganized sections of the people irrespective of their religion, caste, creed or gender. The Project area of MSSS encompasses the entire nation of Indian sub-continent.

The United Nations recognized the organization as Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC since 2016 understanding the various development interventions.

Vision

To create a just society, by promoting democratic and human values, based on gospel values of social harmony and equity.

Mission

To serve the poor, marginalized, unorganized sections of society by promoting and strengthening their community-based organizations. This is done in order to enhance the creative potentials of individuals and groups, thus sustaining the development and empowerment processes.

 

Objectives

  • To promote and strengthen community-based organizations of the weaker sections.
  • To support other NGOs and local institutions in Kerala through capacity building, sharing, networking, linkages, and policy advocacy.
  • To promote sustainable farming practices among small farmers.
  • To support activities of the community-based organizations for poverty reduction and sustainable livelihoods of the weaker sections.
  • To promote education and critical awareness on socio-economic and political issues.
  • To promote sustainable management of natural resources.
  • To enhance gender consciousness at the individual, group, community levels, and policy levels.
  • To promote innovative and sustainable methods and practices among the rural population.
  • To promote an integrated healthcare system.

INTERVENTION AREA

MSSS has a grown over the years as the area of service has extended. MSSS work in the state Kerala and Tami Nadu and provide the extensive services to the people of 4 districts through different programmes and activities and enlite their lives through empowerment and knowledge. MSSS reaches out 215 villages of Kerala and Tamil Nādu spread across four districts viz. Trivandrum, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kanyakumari. Our coverage encompasses 8 million people irrespective of their religion, cast and creed.
